August 18 (Renewables Now) - Cero Generation, an independent portfolio company of Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG), has hired US-based Ameresco Inc (NYSE:AMRC) and Greece’s Sunel Group to build its 100-MWp Delfini solar park in the East Macedonia and Thrace region of Greece.
The engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) activities will be carried out by a joint venture between the contractors, energy efficiency and renewables company Ameresco said on Tuesday. The latter will take part through its Greek unit Ameresco Energy Hellas SA.
Under the deal, Ameresco Sunel Energy SA will install the photovoltaic (PV) park in the municipality of Prosotsani, Drama regional unit. Building works have already been initiated and are expected to be completed by the third quarter of next year.
Once in operation, the solar plant will be run under a power purchase agreement (PPA) with Swiss renewable power producer Axpo Holding AG, which makes it one of the first solar developments in Greece with a private power off-take deal in place.
“This project is an important step in the expansion of Cero's Greek portfolio and one of many market-leading projects in our pipeline,” said Marta Martinez Queimadelos, CEO of Cero Generation.
Cero Generation officially launched the project at an event in Athens in July.
